Allied Telesis unveils solutions and strategy for 2010
Chiasso, Switzerland. November 2009 – Allied Telesis has announced its product strategy and plans for 2010, including high resiliency products and solutions that offer high-availability cost-effective performance for enterprise, metropolitan as well as carrier networks.
“There is a fundamental convergence of network use in the residential and enterprise environments with increasing uptake of bandwidth-hungry applications from VoIP to video streaming,” commented Mr Takayoshi Oshima, Chairman of the Allied Telesis Group. “Consequently, we are starting to see similarities in what enterprise network managers and providers of metropolitan and carrier networks are demanding. Allied Telesis is well placed to take advantage of this trend, as a leading provider of highly resilient solutions to all of these categories.”
The company views resiliency as fundamental to the way networks will evolve in 2010. Resiliency is commonly viewed as an ‘expensive luxury’ by network managers as it generally involves investment in equipment that stands idle most of the time. Allied Telesis has approached this issue from a different viewpoint and its typical pragmatic approach, and has in the pipeline solutions that would make for a completely resilient network with minimal redundancy. Using Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) and Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack™), the Allied Telesis resiliency solution will do away with network administrators having to incur dead investment in standby equipment or links for redundancy.
“Just as we brought a sensible and results-oriented approach to delivering a range of low-energy solutions in 2009, we see 2010 as being the year of the emergence of a truly resilient solution that is by definition cost-effective because it is completely active,” said Mr Oshima. “We have done away with many of the redundant links and equipment that normally delivered resiliency and have instead come up with a network solution that is both active and robust.”
The company also revealed its product strategy for 2010.
Allied Telesis will facilitate intelligent network evolution by developing future-proof solutions and extending its popular x900 and x600 series of products to incorporate even more functionality, to enable more efficient and streamlined network management at the network core and edge. The products have been well received by customers across the region due to their cost-effective provision of high availability, reliability and easy deployment, unique Virtual Chassis Stacking, and EPSR switching rings for high reliability. They support a variety of network end-points with support for Power over Ethernet, Link Layered Discovery Protocol – Media Endpoint Discovery (LLDP-MED) and voice VLAN and incorporate advanced Quality of Service features. The AlliedWare PlusTM operating system on the two product ranges features Microsoft NAP and Symantec support for real network authentication and security, and offers wide-ranging functionality at low power.
The move is expected to be of particular interest to both carriers and enterprises in sectors such as healthcare, government, education, etc. The company also plans to issue regular updates to its popular AlliedWare Plus operating system.
“Allied Telesis has a very strong business case with its combined offering of future-proofing, resilience, standards-based and secure solutions at a compelling price point,” said Mr Oshima. “We have already seen a pick-up of momentum and interest in our offerings for 2010 and plan to evolve our offering to cater for ever-more sophisticated customer demands.”
